What is Agarwood?
Agarwood is a resinous heartwood that some times occurs in trees belonging to the genus Aquiliaria
(Thymelaeceae Family)

Aqualaria is a fast growing archaic subtropical forest trees, with a population range stretching from South
Asia and totally have 16 breeds.

Agarwood is reputed to be the most expensive wood in the world.

Most commonly, the resin is known as agarwood, aloeswood, eaglewood, gaharu, agalocha or oudh(In
Arabhuc)

How to produce Agarwood in a tree?
Agarwood or oudh forms as a reaction to fungal or bacterial attack.

Trees, occasionally become infected with a parasite module secrete a fragrant, protective oil into
wounded areas (roots, branches, or section of the trunk) which graducally become harder and dark
brown to black.

How to Inoculate Artificially?
Modern days use artificial inoculation methods, Instead of the process of making Agar in a tree.

The cabinet approval was granted to the proposal made by President Maithripala Sirisena as the Mahaweli Development and Environment Minister to promote the exportation of Gyrinopswalla (Wallapatta) plant and cultivate the plant based on its commercial value, An official would be appointed to issue a permit to allow the possession and transportation of the plant. President Maithripala Sirisena as the Mahaweli Development and Environment Minister had submitted a cabinet paper in this regard following the methods prepared with the agreement of the officials of Forest Conservation Department and Wildlife Conservation and Biodiversity Secretariat. Gyrinopswalla plant was included in the red list prepared in 2012.
